Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Crotalus oreganus concolor
Midget Faded Rattlesnake

San Juan Co., Utah
May 28, 2011

Someone, I can't recollect who, was calling this small rattlesnake the 'Faded Midget', getting a chuckle out of me. It wasn't until I was back at home that I recalled Edward Abbey also referred to the Faded Midget in his classic Desert Solitaire.

This specimen was found crossing the road in the Canyon Rim Lands of Utah.  I think I may stick with calling them Faded Midgets.
