Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Eurycea longicauda longicauda
Longtail Salamander

Union Co., Illinois
October 1977

The Longtails I have seen are either a lemon-yellow color, or an orange tint, almost matchin that of a Cave Salamander.  They can be very common in some areas, and an occasional find in other places. They seem to prefer rocky streambeds, caves and crevices, although I have found plenty up in the woods under logs and leaf litter.

To the right top is an Indiana specimen; below that is a Longtail from Kentucky.
