The North American Field Herping Association will be holding its first annual meeting near the Shawnee Forest in southern Illinois.  Here is your opportunity to meet with other NAFHA folks in one of North America's herp hotspots!

Open to NAFHA members, NA-Herp database contributors, and anyone interested in learning more about the organization and its activities.

Friday thru Sunday, October 5th - 7th
 

Primary Meeting Place: 
Devil's Backbone Campground, Grand Tower, Illinois.  See the Campground Info link at left for more details.

Friday - Travel day, Open Day

Friday Night:  Meet-and-Greet Campfire, Devil's Backbone campground

Pancake Breakfast, Devil's Backbone Campground

Field Trip to Larue-Pine Hills Ecological Area (Snake Road), Union Co., Illinois

One of the famous herping spots in North America, the Snake Road offers the opportunity to closely observe many species of amphibians and reptiles.

Please Note: Permit required for the Snake Road as a part of this official NAFHA event.  You will need to carry a copy of NAFHA's use permit, available Saturday morning or at the Devil's Backbone campground Friday afternoon / evening.

Sunday:

Field Trip to Heron Pond, Johnson Co., Illinois

Located in the Cache River State Natural Area, Heron Pond is an old-growth cypress swamp, and is home to a variety of herpetofauna and other wildlife.

During this official NAFHA event, the collection of amphibians and reptiles is prohibited.  All attendees are expected to comply with state and federal rules and regulations.
