Herpetofauna - One Life's List

Eastern Narrowmouth Toad
Gastrophryne carolinensis

Rockingham, North Carolina. May 23, 1998.

Odd looking little frogs.  We found a number of them under boards next to a fish pond - they hide during the day and feed at night.  Ants and termites are favorite food, along with other small insects.

It's always fun to hear them call - it's a nasal sort of sheep bleat, audible for long distances.
