Carolina Mountain Dusky Salamander
Desmognathus carolinensis

Blount Co., Tennessee. March 13, 1999.

Another species found when we had just an hour or two to get off the main highway and do a little salamandering on the way home from somewhere else. Thankfully, the desmognathids and plethodontids rarely let us down. I was able to find a number of carolinensis when I finally returned to the Smokies in 2006, which is documented in The Great Salamander Swing.
