Herpetofauna - One Life's List

Southern Two-Lined Salamander
Eurycea cirrigera

Middle Fork Preserve, Vermilion Co., Illinois. March 1996.

I've yet to find a Twolined Salamander away from a water source. I know they can be found under rocks, logs and leaves in moist areas, but I mine have always been in the water or right next to it.  Many times they share the same habitat with the Longtailed Salamander, their larger cousin.

The lefthand picture is of a cirrigera from central Illinois; the one below is a specimen from south-central Kentucky.
