Northern Dusky Salamander
Desmognathus fuscus fuscus

Sevier Co., Tennessee, May 30, 2000.

Coming back from the Carolinas we stopped for a few hours of salamandering in the Great Smoky Mountains.  I cannot recall the place we were at, but we walked for a long while on a trail through woods full of moss and ferns, and Tracey managed to find a beautiful Rattlesnake Orchid.  We crossed a gorgeous stream on a narrow log, and this and several other Duskies lived on the wet moss and rocks next to the stream.
