We had traveled less than a mile, hadn't really settled into road-cruising mode when Tim shouted "talpina!"  I straddled the snake, but was going too fast and it took a while to turn around and get back to it.  Fortunately, the snake was still there, and we had a photo session on the side of the road as the light fell.
