Pseudemys floridana floridana
Florida Cooter
St. Mark's NWR, Wakulla Co.,
Florida. October 27, 2004
Sneaking up on aquatic turtles can be a real challenge. They are very
alert and head for the water if you get too close. I took this shot of
a pair of cooters before I attempted to get closer, slowly sneaking through
waist-high grass. About ten feet away I slowly raised up for a peek -
and they were gone. Later I was able to photograph a group
of cooters, along with a Yellowbelly Slider.
