Drymobius margaritiferus margaritiferus Cameron Co., Texas. February 21st, 1995 One of the bitter lessons I have learned about field photography is to always make sure your equipment is working properly beforehand. I did not do so on this day, and it cost me dearly - I only have this one poor photo of one of the most beautiful snakes I've ever found. I've made a number of trips back to south Texas, but have not been able to secure a better picture. I have seen more Speckled Racers but could not get close enough for a good photograph. They saw me first, and they are quick to disappear into the thick vegetation. Thanks to Sasha Korell for providing a great picture of a captive Speckled Racer.
