Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Thamnophis proximus orarius
Gulf Coast Ribbon Snake

Cameron Co., Texas. February 23, 2003

I was down at the resaca in the palm forest, peering thru the slats in the bird blind in hopes of seeing a snake out in the water, when we saw a snake in the water.  Funny how that works out once in a while.  Actually the snake was on top of the water, due to the thick aquatic vegetation.  I was able to get a long distance shot before it reached the far shore and disappeared into the brush.  I've got to get a better telephoto lens!

I also saw several Gulf Coast Ribbons along the Rio Grande during a canoe trip, but they were too quick to photograph.
