Rana palustris
Adams Co., Illinois My first Pickerel Frog was in a small, steep-sided canyon cut by a spring-fed stream. Caves and springs and small streams are a favorite habitat of this frog. Often I see them in the hollows formed where a stream undercuts the root system of a tree; they sit quietly there, waiting for the next insect to bumble along. The specimen shown is from Kentucky.
