Herpetofauna: One Life's List

Phrynosoma solare
Regal Horned Lizard

Pima Co., Arizona
August 3, 2000

On dirt roads out in the low desert, searching for sidewinders, we ran across several solare, as the sun was setting.  We managed to slap hands on one, even though it was as hot as an oven and the lizards were very active.  These are the largest of the Horned Lizards, and also have the most impressive set of spines around the back of the head.
