On a weekend break at a conference in San Francisco, I managed to get up to the Muir Woods for a day. It was a real privilege to hike the trails and see the ancient trees there, many of them old when Europeans first found America. Along the way I also managed to observe a Western Skink in an open, grassy area on a hilltop. John Sullivan graciously provided me with this picture, since I missed an opportunity to photograph the one I saw. Nowadays I never go anywhere without packing the camera equipment! |
