Herpetofauna - One Life's List

Florida Cottonmouth
Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti

Jackson Co., Florida. April 25th, 2003

This turned up under a railroad tie along some tracks we were working, far from any water we could see.  This was one moccasin that would not hold still or bluff into a defensive coil, making photography a difficult proposition.  The tie next to this one's hiding place turned up a large and opaque Eastern Diamondback - bonus!

It is a beautiful animal.
