Speckled / Desert Kingsnake Intergrade
Lampropeltis getula holbrookiXsplendida

Webaunsee Co., Kansas.  May 17, 2004

At top left is a specimen from eastern Kansas. and at bottom left is a snake from central Kansas.  The top snake looks like a pretty nice Speckled King, with just a faint trace of pattern on the dorsum.  The bottom snake is patterned much more like a Desert King, with some extra scale spots perhaps.  During five days in Kansas we found kingsnakes with all manner of variations in between and no two quite alike.  A Speckled type might be found ten feet from a Desert type.

Desert or Speckled or Desert Speckled, they were fun to find and made for some interesting comparisons.
