Mexican Hognose Snake

The little Hognose was crossing the Pandale Dirt Road just as the setting sun touched the hills to the west. Here in the Trans-Pecos area of Texas, the Hognose snakes are often intergrades between kennerlyi and nasicus (Plains Hognose), this one appeared to be pure kennerlyi, however.

This species supposedly feigns death less often than other Hognoses; this one however, promptly obliged us.
