Western Longnose Snake
Rhinocheilus lecontei lecontei

Pima Co., Arizona. August 3, 2000

Out in the low desert north of Tucson, we were looking for Sidewinders and found this twenty inch Longnose along the way.  It was early in the evening, when these snakes begin to prowl in search of lizards and small snakes.  During the day they stay hidden underground, in burrows and crevices.

We were happy to let it return to foraging, after we snapped a picture or two.
