 One of the bitter lessons I have learned about field photography is to always make sure your equipment is working properly beforehand.  I did not do so on this day, and it cost me dearly - I only have this one poor photo of one of the most beautiful snakes I've ever found.

I've made trips back to the Palm Forest every year but have not been able to secure a better picture; I have seen more Speckled Racers but could not get close enough for a good picture.  I'm in the process of putting together a journal page for the Palm Forest anyway - it's a great place to visit!

And you never know - next year might be the year...
