Copperbelly Water Snake Southern Illinois. September 26, 2003 |

In
all probability, this snake is a neglecta-flavigaster
intergrade, but since it looks like a neglecta, and because
the status of neglecta in southern Illinois is up in the air, I think
I'll call it a Copperbelly until someone proves otherwise. I've seen a number of these copper-bellied snakes in this same location, and have encountered the same large female twice in successive years. |
