Gulf Coast Ribbon Snake
Thamnophis proximus orarius

Sabal Palm Forest, Cameron Co., Texas. February 21, 2003

We were down at the resaca in the palm forest, peering thru the slats in the bird blind in hopes of seeing a snake out in the water, when we saw a snake in the water.  Funny how that works out once in a while.  Actually the snake was on top of the water, due to the thick aquatic vegetation.  I was able to get a long distance shot before it reached the far shore and disappeared into the brush.  I've got to get a better telephoto lens!

We also saw several Gulf Coast Ribbons along the Rio Grande during a canoe trip, but they were too quick to photograph.
