Herpetofauna - One Life's List

Trans Pecos Rat Snake
Bogertophis subocularis

Terlingua, Brewster Co., Texas. May 24, 1997.

Finding subocularis was an old dream finally come to fruition one night on a back road in the Chihuahuan Desert.  Crawling up the embankment on the side of the road, it stood out in the glare of the  headlights and we instantly knew what it was.  A three thousand mile journey to see the likes of this snake - fortune smiled upon us that time.

They are beautiful gentle creatures, rarely offering to bite.
