In St. Charles County one drizzly morning in early March, with an ambient air temperature of 59 F, I managed to find several hatchling Red Milks along with an adult.  They were under loose shale at the base of a bluff, along with several neonate Osage Copperheads.  That made it a very nice day!

Red Milks can be secretive snakes that become hard to find once the weather warms up and the ground dries out.  The top one pictured here was found in Johnson County, in southern Illinois.  The bottom snake is a nice specimen from eastern Kansas.
